Kogi State Presents N78bn budget for 2010

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris yesterday presented a budget proposal of N78.455,332,453 billion for the 2010 fiscal year.
The budget tagged: Budget of Renewed Hope is 0.31per cent lower than 2009 budget, which is N78,669,082,681.
The governor, while presenting the budget to the House of Assembly explained that N41.9 billion is expected to be derived from recurrent sources while N36.6 will come from capital.
According to the budget proposal, construction and rehabilitation of both rural and urban roads across the state will get the largest allocation of N12.4 billion, while education, which the governor describes as the most thriving industry in the state, has the second highest allocation of N7.5billion.
Next is the general administration, which has a total sum of N6.3 billion and N1.8 billion for power sector.
Water, according to the budget, is expected to gulp N5.5 billion, while health has a paltry N2.7 billion. Housing projects is expected to take N1.2 billion in the fiscal year.
In line with the seven-point agenda of the Federal Government in having food security, the government voted N3.2 billion on agriculture.
In the Information, sports and social development, the state government has also proposed a N3.1billion capital development fund.
Idris also pointed out that his administration will continue to play a leading role in the development of industries.
On this regard, the government will collaborate with private investors while a total sum of N1.3 billion has been set aside for the establishment of four industries.
