World Cup South Africa 2010 Draws: Nigeria in Group B Faces Argentina, Greece, Korea Republic

The Super Eagles will open their World Cup campaign in South Africa next year against Argentina on June 12 in a repeat of the opening group match of the Korea/Japan 2002 edition. A late minute strike by Gabriel Batistuta gave Argentina victory in the opening match of the group phase at that tournament.

Playing at the Ellis Park in Johannesburg, the economic capital of South Africa, the Super will dare the South Americans who will be making their 15th appearance at the mundial. The Eagles will have to throw everything into the encounter to outplay Lionel Messi the Barcelona prodigy who recently won the Ballon d’Or award.

In the draws held at the Convention Centre in the historic city of Cape Town last night, the Nigerian team who are drawn in Group B, will also face opposition from Korea Republic and Greece for a second round ticket.
Host South Africa will play alongside Mexico in the opening match of the tournament. Uruguay and France complete Group A with centre in Sun City also in Johannesburg.

Algeria who edged out African champions, Egypt, enroute to South Africa, will confront England, USA and Slovenia in Group C. Ghana playing in Group D will do battle with three times champions, Germany, Australia and Serbia, while Cameroon will be up against The Netherlands, Denmark and Japan in Group E.

Ivory Coast, who are rated Africa’s brightest hope at the tournament, are drawn in Group G along Brazil, Korea DPR and Portugal. Defending champions, Italy will play in Group F which also has Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia, while Spain who are number one in FIFA ranking are drawn in Group H with Switzerland, Honduras, and Chile.
